Martial law lifted in Maguindanao

Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has lifted martial law in Maguindanao

It’s finally over. PGMA has lifted martial law in Maguindanao province as of 9:00pm today.

However, critics of the government still want to push through with their petition to question the validity of the proclamation with the Supreme Court. Is this not already moot and academic? Why waste the time of the SC for something that has already ended and done with?

Even if martial law has been lifted, life for the people in Maguindanao will still be the same if the same kind of leaders are elected into office this coming election in 2010. This can only be done if the source of intimidation and fear is removed so people can freely speak their minds. The next step is for the government to follow through with the swift delivery of justice not only to those who died last November 23 but also to those who were murdered during the regime of the Ampatuans.
