Pop Girls: Another Wonder Girls rip-off?
by DailyManila on December 29, 2009

Philippine music producers who want to cash in on the popularity of Korean all-girl group Wonder Girls have released their own version called “Pop Girls.”

The Universal Motion Dancers or UMD, was a popular all-male dance group in the 90s.
While there’s nothing wrong with being a copycat, producers should at least have the decency to make them a little bit original. Not only are they not original, the girls are not even full-blooded Filipinos except for one. The man behind this group, Vic del Rosario, was also instrumental in the success of Sharon Cuneta, Regine Velasquez, Ogie Alcasid, Sarah Geronimo, among others, according to their
website. The girls were supposedly taught how to dance properly by no other than dancer / choreographer
Geleen Eugenio, who was mentor to the likes of Vilma Santos, Nora Aunor and the now forgotten
Universal Motion Dancers (see image on the right).
The Pop Girls
The five who make up Pop Girls are twins Lai and Mar, both aged 16 and half Lebanese; Half Filipino, half Dutch Rose, 13 years old; Half Filipino, half Swiss Schai, 14 years old and Nadine, the only pure Filipino in the group. So, watch out for them as they conquer the music scene both here and abroad (hopefully).
