Tiger Woods is taking a leave from golf to repair strained relationship with wife and children

Golf legend Tiger Woods, on his official website, has announced that he is taking a leave from golf to focus on repairing his relationship with his wife and children.

Here’s the full text of Tiger Woods’ announcement on his official website:

“I am deeply aware of the disappointment and hurt that my infidelity has caused to so many people, most of all my wife and children. I want to say again to everyone that I am profoundly sorry and that I ask forgiveness. It may not be possible to repair the damage I’ve done, but I want to do my best to try.

I would like to ask everyone, including my fans, the good people at my foundation, business partners, the PGA Tour, and my fellow competitors, for their understanding. What’s most important now is that my family has the time, privacy, and safe haven we will need for personal healing.

After much soul searching, I have decided to take an indefinite break from professional golf. I need to focus my attention on being a better husband, father, and person.

Again, I ask for privacy for my family and I am especially grateful for all those who have offered compassion and concern during this difficult period.”

This came about by the revelation of his affairs with several women. Not only is he linked to one woman, he is rumored to have (sexual) affairs with several others, including a porn star, 10 to be exact according to Dear Bloggery. According to various reports, the first woman linked to Tiger Woods, club hostess Rachel Uchitel, allegedly traveled to Australia to be with Tiger during a golf tournament.

According to a report from Mashable.com, Accenture, one of Tiger Woods’ biggest corporate sponsors, has pulled off its Tiger Woods-related online ads. While there is no official statement from Accenture, it appears that this action was triggered by the events that have unfolded these past few days. Expect other major sponsors to follow suite.

Like Tiger Woods, 7-time world boxing champion, Manny Pacquiao, was also rumored to have been romantically involved with another woman, Krista Ranillo, daughter of 1980s matinee idol, Matt Ranillo. Both Manny and Krista have strongly denied this allegation.

Update [Dec. 14]: Consulting firm Accenture has released an official statement on their website ending the sponsorship that lasted 6 years — “given the circumstances of the last two weeks … the company has determined that he is no longer the right representative for its advertising.” (Source: CNN.com)
