Call it intuition but the idiom “when there’s smoke, there’s fire” has always been true. TV host and actress Kris Aquino, daughter of the late President Corazon Aquino, bothered when she heard her husband, local basketball star James Yap, talking on the phone with a girl who was crying, reportedly stormed his husband’s female fan at their home in Valle Verde, the same village where Kris and James also live, and shouted invectives at her and her mother according to a report on Inquirer.
Two versions of the story
According to an unnamed Inquirer source, as soon as Kris Aquino saw the girl, she immediately threw invectives at her. Her mother, who noticed the commotion, went out and got the same tongue-lashing from Ms. Aquino.
Kris Aquino’s version, as told to her best friend Boy Abunda and later on corroborated by Ricky Lo, was entirely different. It portrayed a cool and calm Kris Aquino. According to the story, she politely declined the mother’s invitation for her to come in and told the whole incident in a polite manner.
It’s not a surprise these two individuals would take the side of Kris Aquino since they work in the same network and are her close friends.
Chemical depression

“To everyone. Kris Aquino passed by house to make me sugod. She spoke to my mom. Very mad, berating us saying I always text and call James. That my mom didn’t bring me up right. That we shouldn’t be talking to married men. She said she’s leaving James and to know that I am the last straw and the reason for their break-up.
“My family has great respect for Teopacos who are our family friend. Mrs. Teopaco is Cory’s youngest sister. My mom raised us right. My mom didn’t deserve all that.
“James missed called and texted na he warned me papunta siya sa house. He called to tell me to apologize and say sorry. Kris said we had something going on.
“I don’t deserve this most especially my mom. I have chemical depression and could have easily taken an overdose pills because of the incident. With the hugs and love of my mom and sisters, and tranquilizers, I’m okay. Do you want Kris to be in Malacañang[?].”
Not the first time
This is not the first time James Yap was rumored to be involved with another woman. A few months before Kris Aquino gave birth to their first baby in early 2007, Yap was allegedly having an affair with Hope Centeno, a receptionist at the Belo Medical Group. However, Yap denied the accusation in an official statement — “For the record, nothing ever happened between the woman and me. There is no one in the world who could ever make me even contemplate risking my relationship with my wife or the health of Baby James.”
