Beginning January 15, 2011, taxi fares will increase to P40 from the flagdown rate of P30 and P3.50 from P2.50 for every 300 meters. That’s an increase of 30% for the flagdown rate and 40% for every 300 meters.
If you ask some taxi drivers, the increase will not really benefit them but the taxi operators. How? Surely, with the increase in the flagdown rate and per-300 meter rate, operators will also increase the “boundary” fee or the daily rent thus rendering the taxi increase useless.
I just hope the attitude of some drivers will also improve after the increase.
Update (1/20/2011): According to the LTFRB, only taxis with plate numbers ending in 1 and 6 are allowed to charge the new rates this coming January 24. Also, only taxis with the LFTRB stickers and meters that can print out receipts can charge the new rate. Full implementation, meaning all taxis, will take effect on May.
